Services have been set for Red West, the longtime Elvis Presley associate and actor.

Visitation for Mr. West will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar, with the funeral set for 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Memorial Park.

A Memphis resident, Mr. West, 81, died Tuesday night at Baptist Memorial Hospital of an aortic aneurysm, according to his wife, Pat Boyd West. The couple had celebrated their 56th anniversary July 1.

A member of the so-called "Memphis Mafia" and almost lifelong friend of Elvis Presley, Mr. West during his life also was a Golden Gloves boxer, Marine, stunt man, actor, songwriter, karate instructor and acting coach. As reported during an earlier news obituary in The Commercial Appeal, His movie and television credits spanned close to six decades, and included numerous appearances in "The Wild, Wild West"; a supporting role in the 1970s World War II series "Black Sheep Squadron"; and parts in such films as "Road House," Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rainmaker" and "Goodbye Solo," an acclaimed independent film from 2008 that gave him his first starring role.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations and memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

-Yours in (secret) service,
